General Information
Both our houses open their doors and the evening box office an hour before the performance is scheduled to start. Half an hour before the curtain rises we invite you to an “introduction in the foyer”. The auditorium doors open about 10 or 15 minutes before curtain up.
SOUND AND PHOTO AND VIDEO RECORDINGS
As in other theatres, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein also cannot for copyright reasons permit taking pictures or making audio or video recordings.
REDUCTION PERMIT CARDS
If you are entitled to a reduction (e.g. for students), please be prepared to show the appropriate permit at the entry doors. Without it we may be compelled to ask for the full price.
LIFTS/ELEVATORS
In Düsseldorf Opera House you can reach all levels easily by lift. In the Duisburg Theater wheelchairs for the disabled can reach the stalls by stairway lift.

WARDROBE
Please hand in your coat at the wardrobe counter – this service is included in the ticket price, no extra charge.
GASTRONOMY
If you wish to order a drink or snack for the interval in advance, please do so at the bars in the foyer before the performance. MOBILE TELEPHONES
Please make sure before the performance starts and after the interval that you have switched off your mobile telephone’s sound and also any other sound signals (e.g. alarm clocks or the like)
OPERA GLASSES
At the information and sales stand near the entrance you may borrow an opera glass for a refundable security deposit of € 15.00.
PROGRAMME BROCHURE
In time for the première of every new production or revival a programme brochure is produced which with the cast list forms the evening’s programme. The brochure can also be obtained separately at the opera shop from the day after the première onwards.
RESTAURANT RESERVATIONS
If available, we will be glad to reserve a table for you at your favourite restaurant for after the show. Let us know your wishes at the information and sales stand near the entrance, either before the performance or in the interval.
CUSHIONS
Against a refundable deposit of € 10.00 we offer cushions for children either at the information and sales stand (Düsseldorf) or at the wardrobe counter (Duisburg). We regret that we cannot undertake to meet the requirement at special performances for schools.
TAXI SERVICE
We have arranged that sufficient taxis will be waiting outside the theatre for you after the performances in Düsseldorf and Duisburg.
SURTITLES
For nearly all opera performances subtitles in German are shown on the proscenium. It is regretted that they are not uniformly easy to read from all seats for architectural reasons.
LATECOMERS
Performances normally start punctually. If you come late you may have to wait until the interval to reach your seat. Until then we offer the facility of following the performance on a monitor screen.
